Full Description
Pick from your hotel and drive to the eastern part of Siem Reap where you will embark on an interesting boat trip to Tonlé Sap Lake through the flooded forests. You will have the opportunity to learn about daily life of the fishermen on the lake Tonle Sap living on their stilt houses between 4-5 meters high above the ground. Visit the fishing community, floating market, the variety of fresh water fish and other resources of the lake. Tonlé Sap is the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia and officially designated as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, covering an area of around 250,000 hectares in the dry season. Due to a unique phenomenon, when the monsoon begins, the swollen waters of the Mekong River force the Tonle Sap River to reverse its flow northwards, feeding the Great Lake and spreading over the surrounding flood plain. During the dry season it is roughly 2,500km2, swelling to about 4 times its size in during the wet season: 10,000 km2.
On the way back if time permits, stop along the way to visit the village, pagoda, lotus farm etc.. At the end of the tour, you will be dropped off back at your hotel.
